SMS Compliance
SMS opt-in overview
Bookline sends conversational and transactional SMS messages only to a participating contractor's own customers or leads who requested service and provided SMS consent before any message is sent.
Program operator
The Bookline SMS program is operated by Shelton Labs LLC, a Virginia-based software business. Bookline helps contractor and home-service businesses communicate with customers about quote requests, estimates, scheduling, appointment reminders, rescheduling, project updates, and customer care.
Who receives messages
Recipients are homeowners or customers who contacted a participating contractor or home-service business, requested service, and provided their mobile number with permission to receive SMS about that request. The contractor business owns the customer relationship and the service inquiry. Bookline provides the software used to send follow-up, scheduling, reminder, project update, and customer-care messages after consent has been documented.
Bookline does not collect consumer leads directly for this campaign. Participating contractor and home-service businesses collect their own customer inquiries and SMS consent before using Bookline to communicate with those customers.
How consent is collected
SMS consent must be collected before messaging begins. Approved opt-in sources can include the participating contractor's own website form, quote request form, scheduling form, phone intake process, or an approved marketplace/lead-source form that presents SMS consent language before the lead is imported into or messaged through Bookline.
Each online opt-in form should present an unchecked SMS consent checkbox or equivalent affirmative consent control next to the phone number field.
Contractor consent requirements
Before a lead is messaged through Bookline, the participating contractor business is expected to have a documented service inquiry and SMS consent record. That record should identify:
- The customer's name.
- The customer's mobile phone number.
- The service request, quote request, estimate, or appointment.
- The consent source, such as a website form, quote request form, scheduling form, phone intake process, or approved lead source.
- Confirmation that the customer agreed to receive conversational and transactional SMS about that specific service request.
Bookline does not knowingly send messages to purchased, scraped, cold, or third-party lists without documented prior opt-in.
Example opt-in language
Phone intake consent
If consent is collected during a phone intake process, the participating business should record that the customer agreed to receive conversational and transactional SMS for the specific service request. The disclosure should include message frequency, message and data rates, HELP/STOP instructions, and that consent is not required as a condition of purchase.
Message content
Messages are limited to customer care and transactional communication connected to the recipient's own service request, quote, estimate, appointment, rescheduling request, project update, or follow-up. Bookline messages identify the sender as Bookline by Shelton Labs or the participating service business and include STOP opt-out language.
Recipient controls
- Message frequency varies based on the customer interaction.
- Message and data rates may apply.
